A hiking tour on Glyndwr's Way will take you to some of the most remote and unspoilt countryside of the British Isles.Your walking vacation can start from Knighton, on the English side of the border with Wales, where Glyndwr's Way meanders through open moorland, rolling farmland, woods and forests finishing in Welshpool.
Here you are only 3 miles from Offa's Dyke Path and it is possible to follow Offa's Dyke for 30 miles back to the start of Glyndwr’s Way at Knighton.
The most westerly point of this hiking tour takes you into Machynlleth which for a short while in the 15th century was declared the capital of Wales by Owain Glyndwr whose followers proclaimed him Prince of Wales.
In Machynlleth you can see Glyndwr's Parliament House. The highest point of this walking holiday is Foel Fadian at 1850 ft / 564m. From here Red Kite can often be seen, wheeling around effortlessly on the thermals.
Follow the hiking trail through the heart of mid Wales and you will be amazed at the panoramic views over the river valleys, the peaks of the Cambrian Mountains and the most beautiful lakes, Llyn Clywedog and Llyn Efyrnwy. The Radnorshire Wildlife Trust has a conservation lease on Beacon Hill Common and the bird life here is abundant. You will experience the opportunity to spot Skylarks, Buzzards and Red Kite, Peregrine, Owls and Hen Harrier to name but a few.
A walking tour on Glyndwr's Way can be taken as a whole, or split into 2 sections. With varied hiking itineraries from 5 to 14 days there is sure to be a walk to suit you.
